Prayers and Sweet Dreams
Each night before bed we pray together. Johanna brushes her teeth, we read a few books and then she asks if we can pray. When it's her turn she kneels by the bed, folds her hands by her chin, and squeezes her eyes tight. In a very serious and genuine voice she repeats the same prayer every night.
"Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you for the sun so bright. Amen."
Very Madeline(esk).
I try to keep a straight face but this prayer makes me giggle a little every single night.
Now Johanna loves routine and so we also have a morning ritual. She whistles when she wakes up so that one of us will come get her out of bed. (What a blessing that at 4 1/2 years old she still doesn't get out of bed without asking) When we come in her room and give her a good morning cuddle she immediately wants to know if we remembered our dream last night. She really just want to tell us her dream which is always the same (see the pattern here?). She says, "I dreamed about rainbows and butterflies and unicorns last night. Then the unicorns ate the rainbows and butterflies because that's what they love to eat."
Perhaps she has a wild imagination. Perhaps she watches too much television. Whatever the case she sure makes life interesting.
